WHAT RMI STANDS FOR...
Roy Maggio Independents (RMI) are
genuine independents, unaffiliated with any major political party, dedicated to
securing the best outcomes for our local community. We assess each motion based
on its merits and the benefits it brings to the community. Our track record
demonstrates success in various areas, including responding to constituent
requests, supporting small businesses, enhancing shared facilities and
revitalising community spaces. We are exclusively focused on our community,
ensuring we stay progressive and relevant, and we are committed to finding
solutions for you.
OUR VISION
Cost of Living Relief - Stop the Waste & Reduce RED TAPE
Amplifying Community Voice - Forums & Continuous Feedback
Enhance Community Recreational/Sporting Facilities & Access
Advocate Environmental Improvements
OUR GOALS
Council
Rates Reduction of 5% in 4 Years
We aim to
achieve a 5% rates reduction in four years by strategic planning and leveraging
technology to increase efficiency. By improving profitability and reducing
overheads, we will lessen reliance on ratepayers and share the financial
benefits with the community. Our goal is to eliminate indecision, reduce the
need for consultants and prevent rework, driving the Council to make prudent,
financially sound decisions.
Smarter
Utilisation of Council Assets
With over
$1.9 billion in assets*, we plan to maximise their utilisation to generate
better financial outcomes for the community. Our goal is to improve the return
on investment (ROI) on these assets by 20% without negatively impacting the
community. *CFO Statement, Council Meeting 28/11/2023.
Enhanced
Community Voice
We believe
in giving all residents a greater say in community decisions. We aim to foster
more opportunities for community participation and feedback, including
reintroducing community speakers at Council meetings.
Improve
Access to Sport and Recreational Facilities
We will
advocate for better management and access to sports and recreational
facilities. Our focus will be on ensuring these facilities are accessible and
utilised by the community, including improvements in parking and surrounding
roads.
Expanded
Youth and Senior Facilities
We aim to enhance
community spirit by improving facilities for both youth and seniors. Our goal
is to establish community centres that encourage active participation and
camaraderie, including spaces for people with disabilities to engage equally.
Better
Road Access in School Zones and Town Villages
We aim to
alleviate traffic bottlenecks in school zones and town villages. Our goal is to
improve access without penalising parents and visitors with fines. Additionally,
we will implement proper controls in school zones on major roads to benefit the
broader community.
Rights
for Companion Animals
Recognising
pets as family members, we aim to create more sites where companion animals can
roam freely while respecting the rights of non-pet owners. We also plan to
designate more areas for the safety of native animals.
100%
Solar in 4 Years, Zero Diesel/Petrol in 8 Years
Our
commitment to sustainability includes generating 100% of electricity needs for
all Council buildings through solar energy within four years. We also aim to
eliminate diesel and petrol usage within eight years, positioning Ryde as a
leader in local battery storage to stabilise the grid and reduce energy costs.
Enhanced
Foreshore and Natural Habitat Access
Ryde’s
extensive foreshore and native bush areas will be made more accessible with
improved walkways, lighting and access to aquatic activities like fishing,
boating and swimming. We aim to connect more bush and foreshore areas with
trails and enhance safety.
Improved
Tree Management
We aim to
empower landholders with more rights to manage their trees with less red tape,
addressing nuisance and dangerous trees effectively. Our goal is to lead in
tree management by increasing canopy cover, strategic pruning and removals,
enhancing solar access and promoting passive heating and cooling through active
tree management.
